I am a freelance photographer who will take on any commissions. However I specialise in food, people and event photography in particular.

I enjoy being client focused and meeting a brief as much as contributing my own passion and creative ideas to a project. I have an easygoing though professional approach and will always strive for the best possible results.

Goods and Services

I specialise in food photography as this allows me to combine my two great passions: delicious food and the creation of beautiful imagery.

I work to commissions from magazines, PR companies and directly for clients. This work ranges from creative images of prepared recipes to more technical ones of packaging and products.

I am happy to discuss work of any photographic nature as I also do portraits, events and interiors.

Environment

Do your company's environmental practices and policies extend to suppliers and contractors?

Rationale for question

Some companies have great buying power, purchasing products, goods and services from many suppliers and on a large scale. Such companies are well placed to pressure suppliers to improve environmental standards throughout the supply chain. Even small companies with no great buying power still have the ability to articulate their preferences and to seek out potential suppliers with the best environmental performance.

There are several ways a company can evaluate the environmental practices of its suppliers and contractors. These might include:
  • using certification standards, e.g. purchasing only from eco-certified companies or sourcing goods that have been environmentally-certified (for example, Forest Stewardship Council certified paper);
  • assessing suppliers' and contractors' environmental policies and statements;
  • talking regularly to suppliers;
  • site visits; and/or
  • independent audits.

Many companies also work closely with their suppliers and contractors to improve overall environmental performance. It is possible to set environmental targets in contracts or service agreements and monitor performance. It is worth remembering that suppliers often have specialist and expert knowledge and can be useful sources of information on more sustainable practice. Better environmental performance can lead not only to environmental benefits but also to cost savings.

Sometimes it is necessary to strike a balance or prioritise between the benefits of using local suppliers or using more distant suppliers with good environmental credentials, for example in debating the cost of transport and air miles. These are not always easy choices to make.

NO

Due to the size and nature of my business, a photographer working to commission, I currently have no formal environmental policy.

I do make ad hoc decisions about purchases and suppliers based on environmental criteria rather than just on price, when possible. For example, I chose to use an accountant who has green credentials. However, as far as I am aware, the majority of other people I work with in my sector, such as home economists and food stylists, simply do not have such credentials. I would be interested to hear of anyone.

In future I would like to formalise my ad hoc environmental practices by being able to offer more favourable rates and priority booking to companies whose environmental practices and policies are of a high standard.
